Forum of Ethnic Nationalities in Amuwo Odofin Rejects Hon. George Olawande’s Second-Term Ambition, Warns Party Leadership Against Reconsidering His Candidacy
Tension is mounting within the political landscape of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency following a decisive meeting held yesterday by the Forum of Ethnic Nationalities in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency led by Chief Akinwunmi Akinkunmi and Comrade Abdullahi Musa, where members unanimously rejected any move to return Hon. George Olawande, popularly known as Omogeye, to the House of Representatives in 2027.
The meeting, which drew leaders and representatives of various ethnic nationalities resident within the constituency, ended with a strong resolution declaring that Hon. Olawande has failed to justify the confidence reposed in him by the people through what participants described as his “undeniably poor performance” at the 10th National Assembly.
In a communique issued at the end of the gathering, the Forum stated that Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency can no longer afford what it described as ineffective representation, poor legislative visibility, and an absence of tangible constituency-focused interventions expected from a lawmaker occupying such a strategic office.
According to the Forum, the people of Amuwo Odofin have carefully assessed Hon. Olawande’s stewardship and concluded that his tenure has fallen significantly below expectations in terms of project facilitation, constituency engagement, empowerment initiatives, and legislative impact.
The group further dismissed repeated explanations surrounding political limitations and internal parliamentary dynamics as insufficient justification for what they termed a disappointing representation. The Forum also issued a stern warning to the leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress at the constituency, Lagos State, and national levels, cautioning against any attempt to hand Hon. Olawande the party’s ticket for the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The group maintained that such a move would amount to political insensitivity and could trigger massive electoral backlash from constituents who are determined to demand accountable and effective leadership.
In what appeared to be one of the strongest declarations from the meeting, the Forum stated that the party risks losing the goodwill of Amuwo Odofin voters if it fields Hon. Olawande again, regardless of the strength of its presidential candidate.
The Forum stressed that even if Mr Peter Obi emerges as the party’s presidential flag bearer in 2027, the people of Amuwo Odofin would not be persuaded to support a House of Representatives candidate they believe has failed them.
Leaders at the meeting emphasized that the 2027 elections would be determined by performance, accessibility, competence, and demonstrated commitment to grassroots development rather than party sentiments or political symbolism.
The Forum concluded by calling on credible, competent, and people-oriented aspirants to step forward and offer the constituency a genuine alternative capable of restoring quality representation and advancing the developmental aspirations of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency.
