Resident Doctors Applaud Akwa Ibom Governor for Reviving Training Fund, Strengthening Health Workforce in Akwa Ibom State
The Association of Resident Doctors, Akwa Ibom State (ARD-AKS) has publicly commended the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, for authorising the prompt payment of the Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF) to resident doctors across various health training institutions. The association described the intervention as a strategic investment in human capital development and a decisive step toward strengthening healthcare delivery systems.
In an official appreciation message signed by its President, Dr. Emmanuel Akpan John, the association noted that the MRTF serves as a critical financial support mechanism that cushions the escalating cost of postgraduate medical training nationwide. According to ARD-AKS, the timely disbursement demonstrates the governor’s policy consistency and his administration’s commitment to building a resilient and motivated health workforce.
The doctors also praised Dr Ekem Emmanuel John, Honourable Commissioner for Health, for restoring the annual MRTF payments after years of discontinuity. They stated that his administrative approach reflects pragmatic leadership and a results-driven vision for healthcare reform in the state.
ARD-AKS emphasized that the initiative will significantly enhance retention of skilled medical professionals, reduce brain drain, and ensure sustained availability of specialists for quality, efficient, and accessible healthcare services. The association further expressed optimism that with such policy direction, the proposed State University Teaching Hospital will launch with a strong base of trained personnel capable of sustaining world-class clinical services.
Reaffirming its commitment to collaboration, ARD-AKS pledged continued partnership with the state government in advancing sustainable healthcare delivery and institutional excellence.
