Sanwo-Olu Flags Off Reconstruction of 2nd and 7th Avenues in Festac Town, Reaffirms Commitment to Urban Renewal

 

The Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has officially flagged off the reconstruction of the 2nd and 7th Avenues in Festac Town, marking another significant milestone in the ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development drive across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin Local Government, Hon. Prince Lanre Sanusi (PLS), expressed profound appreciation to the Governor for prioritising the long-awaited rehabilitation of the critical road corridors.
According to Hon. Sanusi, the reconstruction of the 2nd and 7th Avenues represents a major boost to mobility, safety, and economic growth within Festac Town and its environs.

“This project is a clear demonstration of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s unwavering commitment to improving transportation infrastructure, easing traffic congestion, addressing flooding challenges, and promoting sustainable development across Lagos State,” he stated.

He noted that the road reconstruction would significantly enhance the quality of life of residents, improve access for businesses, and restore Festac Town’s status as a functional and modern urban centre.
The council chairman also commended members of the Lagos State Executive Council, Hon Gbenga Oyerinde, the Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, officials from the Office of Infrastructure, and all relevant state agencies for their professionalism, dedication, and teamwork in ensuring the successful take-off of the project.

Special appreciation was extended to the Honourable Member representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Stella Foluke Osafile, for her consistent support and legislative backing for development initiatives in the area.

Hon. Sanusi further acknowledged the traditional institutions for their cultural support and unity, led by:
HRM Alayeluwa Oba Engr. Oluwatoyin Obasola Tayo Adewusi (Erogogun I), the Oba of Amuwo-Odofin,
HRM Oba Dr. Sulaimon Adisa Surajudeen Bawala Ado, Fabuwa II, the Alado of Ado Kingdom
Their presence, he noted, underscored the collective commitment of the community to progress and development.

The Executive Chairman also commended the security agencies for their professionalism and effective maintenance of peace and order during the flag-off ceremony and within the surrounding communities.
He expressed gratitude to party leaders, community stakeholders, local government legislators, council management, and residents of Festac Town for their cooperation and support.

Hon. Sanusi assured residents that the reconstruction project would be executed transparently and in phases to minimise disruptions to daily activities.
“Our administration remains fully committed to delivering projects that directly impact the lives of our people. We are determined to restore Festac Town to its rightful place as a vibrant, functional, and modern urban centre,” he affirmed.

The reconstruction of the 2nd and 7th Avenues is expected to significantly transform transportation, improve road safety, stimulate local commerce, and further strengthen Lagos State’s reputation as Africa’s leading megacity.
