Edo State Governor Signs Bills to Enhance Judiciary and Oil Sector Governance
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has signed two significant bills into law, aiming to improve the state’s judiciary and oil sector governance. The first bill increases the retirement age of magistrates from 60 to 65 years, allowing seasoned magistrates to serve longer and enhance the efficiency and experience of the judiciary.
The second bill expands the membership of the Edo State Oil Gas Producing Area Commission (EDOSOPADEC) from 7 to 10 members. This move is expected to improve governance, representation, and operational efficiency within the agency, ultimately bettering the management of the state’s oil resources and fostering economic growth.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that these legislative actions align with the state’s vision of enhancing judicial integrity and optimizing the benefits of its natural resources for the people of Edo State. The two bills are expected to take immediate effect, with stakeholders expressing optimism about their potential impacts on governance and service delivery in the state.
