EFCC Vows to Bring Ikechukwu to Trial After Fatal Shooting of Officer

A recent operation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) took a deadly turn when Ikechukwu, a suspected internet fraudster, opened fire on investigators, killing one officer, Salisu, and wounding another [1).

The operation had begun smoothly, with 37 suspected internet fraudsters arrested at a two-storey building in Ikechukwu’s residence. However, Ikechukwu, who had been monitoring the investigators through a CCTV camera, refused to open his door and instead fired shots at them.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ikechukwu was involved in coding and online medical supplies of doubtful legitimacy. Several devices, including laptops and iPads, were recovered from his apartment, confirming his involvement in internet fraud.

The EFCC has condemned the attack and vowed to bring Ikechukwu to trial. The Commission also warned the public about the increasing dangers posed by internet fraudsters, who are now involved in kidnapping, banditry, ritual killings, and other deadly acts.
