Be Cautious: My Encounter with a Dishonest Cashier

Be Cautious: My Encounter with a Dishonest Cashier

I recently came across a post on Linda Ikeji’s blog that resonated with me. It reminded me of a personal experience I had with a cashier who tried to take advantage of me. I’d like to share my story as a cautionary tale to remind everyone to be vigilant when conducting transactions.

About two years ago, I visited a store in Fagba to buy bread. I used my ATM card to pay, but what happened next was shocking. The cashier processed my transaction, but withdrew twice the amount I owed. I was unaware of this mistake until I received an alert on my phone after I left the store.

I immediately returned to the store, and the cashier apologized profusely. I was lucky to have caught the error, but it made me realize how easily we can fall victim to dishonest cashiers.

This experience taught me to always double-check my transactions and verify the amount being withdrawn. I urge everyone to do the same. Remain vigilant, and don’t assume that errors won’t happen. By sharing my story, I hope to caution others about the hidden excesses of some cashiers.
