Kano Govt Takes Legal Action Against Former Governor Ganduje and Three Others Over Alleged Financial Irregularities
The Kano State Government has filed new criminal charges against former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, his former Commissioner for Local Government, Murtala Garo, and two other individuals. The charges allege serious financial misconduct, including criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust, making false statements, and criminal misappropriation.
The fresh charges bring new accusations against the former governor and his associates, expanding on previous allegations of financial wrongdoing. The Kano State Government is seeking accountability for alleged crimes related to the mismanagement of public funds and abuse of office.
The Kano State Government has filed charges against former Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, former Commissioner Murtala Garo, and two others, alleging mismanagement of funds meant for the 44 Local Governments. The accused are said to have diverted N57.4 billion from the State Joint Local Governments account.
The government alleges that the funds were siphoned through personal accounts and converted into cash in both US dollars and Nigerian naira. The accused are said to have used the proceeds for personal benefit, acquiring properties worth billions of naira.
The properties in question include the Kano Cotton Ginnery and a hotel in Badawa Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano. The state government is seeking accountability for the alleged misappropriation of funds
The accused individuals are also alleged to have used the misappropriated funds to acquire several properties for their personal benefit, including:
– A service apartment at Murtala Muhammad Way
– A commercial apartment at Akoya Oxygen, Dubai
– A plot at Damac Heights, Marsa Dubai Marina
– A multi-billion naira hotel at Jabi, Abuja
– A filling station at Gwarzo Road, Kano
– A filling station at Eastern Bypass, Kano
These acquisitions are said to have caused wrongful gain for the accused and wrongful loss to the people of Kano State and the 44 Local Government Areas.
According to the charge sheet, the prosecution will present evidence during the trial to show that the accused used their offices to betray their official trust between 2020 and 2023 for self-enrichment. The trial is expected to commence soon, with 143 witnesses scheduled to testify.
