INDIA: An overview of Chinmaya Foundation’s Covid-19 awareness, kit & relief distribution programs over the 900+ days of the global pandemic Corona terror : A birds eye view
The virus first appeared on a small scale in November 2019 with the first large cluster appearing in Wuhan, China in December 2019. It had already covered India extensively. On 22nd March 2020 AD, various states of India were short down by the order of the Government of India. People were not allowed to leave their homes. In which the laborers were unable to collect foods for their belly.
Those who had gone to work were returning to the village in groups without finding work. A mother weeps for the loss of her young son in the plague, where a woman loses her husband. People start dying like flies.
Some are hungry due to lack of awareness as thousands of dead bodies are seen in front of the eyes. This epidemic has created a rift in the family even father, husband, wife, son and daughter. The cyclone had hit Odisha in different phases. Exactly five months later, the outbreak of the great flood was also breaking the veins of the people.
Unable to bear all this, from 22nd March 2020, Chinmaya Foundation was dedicated to raise awareness among the hungry and the unconscious. They started going from village to village to distribute handmade masks, soaps, vegetables, ORS, clothes and rations along with cooked and dry food. Later, sanitizers, bleaching, dettol, phenyl etc. were added.
This foundation continued to provide blankets, medisinalized mosquito nets and financial assistance to economically disadvantaged persons to protect them from the cold weather & mosquito’s. Reading books, accounts (notes), pens etc. to the children to study properly. Giving the dry & cooked food for road side loving animals & birds.
In Odisha and outside of Odisha in various Villages, City Bazars, Slums , Railway station, Bus stand, Roadside etc., the program started to become popular. Cultural program conducted by the foundation with the artistes of Dolphin Dance School and Group (which is the cultural enhanced program of Chinmaya Foundation), hundred hundred numbers of Corona awareness roadside drama & other cultural awareness programs are plays & traveling awareness cart in various district of odisha & outside .Its main aim was to eradicate the epidemic corona from the society by making people aware.
Today this program has been running for 905 days. Compared to other countries, the incidence of corona has decreased in India, but it has not been completely eradicated. There has been no change in the economic recovery of the economically disadvantaged people who are living at the expense of their livelihoods. Therefore, this awareness & Covid-19 Kit distribution program will continue until the epidemic corona is completely eradicated from the whole world and the relief distribution program will continue until the financially disadvantaged people, old-age people, orphans, poor, disadvantaged tribals are included in the mainstream of the society, said the founder chairman of the Chinmaya foundation, Mr. Chinmaya Dash.
