As part of activities lined up to give the departed CCC Music General, late Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist Oluwole Adetiran, a befitting burial, Celestians from different parts of the country, including some from the diaspora gathered at the CCC Oyo State Headquarters, Army Barracks’ Road, Mokola, Ibadan on Monday, 22nd August, 2022, to hold a Service of Songs program and further pay glowing tributes to the departed composer of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) anthem.
The program, which started few minutes past 5:00pm and anchored by the duo of Superior Evangelist Daniel Kayode and Senior Evangelist Korede Ogunmola, began with an opening prayer which was swiftly followed by CCC Hymn 694, CCC Hymn 16 and CCC Hymn 237, after which there was a three-member prayer.
The song renditions continued with CCC hymn 276 and CCC Hymn 176 which was followed by the Bible lesson for the day: Ecclesiastes 3: 1-9, taken by Pastor Ayokunumi Adetiran and Venerable Most Senior Evangelist Ogunwale. Renditions of CCC Hymn 609, CCC Hymn 713 and CCC Hymn 580 followed the scriptural reading.
Among the dignitaries present at the program were Venerable Superior Evangelist Noah Ikumehinlo, the Oyo State Evangelist, Venerable Superior Evangelist Oluwole Faleye (JP); a member of the burial committee, Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist Thomson Aminu; the Patron of CCC Army Barracks, Superior Evangelist Daniel Sottin, and the Chairman of the Wole Adetiran Burial Committee, Superior Evangelist Olusegun Okeowo among others.
Also present at the program were the children, family members and protégés of the late Adetiran among which were MC Olagunju, Apostle Remi Olabamiji, Tolulope Adetiran, Iyiola Adetiran, Wura Adetiran and the deceased’s first child, Olumide Adetiran, as well as choristers from the First Baptist Church, Idi-kan, Ibadan, where the deceased began his journey before coming to CCC Army Barracks.
In his address at the program, the Chairman of the Wole Adetiran Burial Committee, Okeowo commended the local organizing committee for making the Service of Songs program a remarkable one.
Okeowo was also full of praises for the host parish for providing the enabling environment and arrangement for the Service of Songs. He said: “I greet every one of you present here on behalf of the Pastor, Reverend Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa, for holding forte in his absence. May the Lord not make Adetiran’s death a recurring one. I salute our father, Remi Olabanji and our choristers. In fact, personally, I rate you all as the best. I have been enjoying your renditions. I also greet my entire committee members, who are all present here.”
“Just as you all know the programs outlined for the departed icon, it will be very unfair to this church if I do not say a very big thank you. For all these programs you see them holding for us, they did not collect one naira from the committee. They did it as their sole contribution to Baba Adetiran’s burial. Out of the 36 states that Baba touched during his lifetime, Oyo State decided that they were going to specially honour him and that is why they organised this program. Please, let us appreciate them.”
Evangelist Okeowo used the opportunity to reel out the remaining programs that have been outlined for the burial of the late music legend, which include an Interdenominational Music Concert slated the Blue Roof of the Lagos Television Complex in Lagos, with special performances to come from the likes of Tope Alabi, Mega 99, Laolu Gbenjo, Bidemi Olaoba, Sola Allyson, Seyi Solagbade among others.
Okeowo also commended the entire members of CCC Central Choir in the United States of America, whose Director was in attendance at the Service of Songs program.
In his brief vote of thanks at the Service of Songs, the first child of the deceased, Olumide, commended the dignitaries and personalities that were present at the Service of Songs.
He recalled the last moments he had with his father, urging the entire CCC fold, including the church’s leadership and followership, to always appreciate their legends very well , even before their demise.
He further appreciated His Eminence, Reverend E.M.F. Oshoffa for his financial support to the Adetiran family and prayed that the Lord would continue to uphold the CCC fold.
The program later featured a series of scintillating performances from the CCC Central Choir and other notable performers within and beyond the state as a way of further honouring the departed CCC music general.
The Service of Songs program ended with torrents of tributes which continued at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, between 12pm and 2pm on Tuesday, 23rd August, 2022, where a Commendation Service was held for the departed music icon.
The polytechnic’s music technology band and other youthful musical groups presented varied kinds of musical performances including Apala at the Commendation Service, with principal officers of the institution all dressed in native attires at the event.
