“I Can Read My Bible Again”: Hon. Okey-Joe’s Free Eye Outreach Restores Sight To Ilasamaja Re

It was another day of relief for residents of Ilasamaja on Saturday as Day 2 of the free medical outreach organized by Hon. Okey-Joe Onuakalusi, Member of the House of Representatives for Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2, ended years of eye-related struggles for man

The outreach, held at No. 1 Sanni Street, Ilasamaja, Lagos State, drew a large turnout of men, women, young and old who came out to have their eyes checked and receive treatment. Accreditation began early, and by 10am the medical team had commenced consultation

For many beneficiaries, the program addressed long-standing problems with reading and vision

An 82-year-old woman, Mrs. Ann Ogbonnaya of No. 10 Sanni Street, was among those overcome with joy.

“I am happy to be here because for some time now I have not been able to read my Bible. The doctor checked my eyes and gave me eyeglasses so I can start reading again,” she said. “I want to thank Hon. Okey-Joe for giving me these eyeglasses. I am so grateful.

Mrs. Gbadamosi Rashida from Oyo State, who lives at No. 9 Amosun Street, described the initiative as timely.

“This is a perfect initiative he is giving us for free, and it’s what many people will benefit from because the eye is a critical sense organ,” she said. “I pray God will give him the grace to do more and also give him the opportunity to win the coming election.

Another beneficiary, 67-year-old Mrs. Maria Olonade, said the free glasses saved her from the cost of replacement.

“My old reading glasses got broken and it’s expensive to get new ones. After the doctor checked me, he gave me another pair and I have tested them. I can do my daily activities perfectly again,” she said. “I want everyone in Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2 to vote for Hon. Okey-Joe in the coming election.

Also present was Mr. Femi Fasanya, Chairman of Best Estate, Oluwalogbon CDA Ilasamaja, who commended the turnout and impact.

“I am satisfied with this medical outreach. The turnout is okay and it’s good to have this in our area. I want Hon. Okey-Joe to add general medical treatment to it so more people can benefit,” he told journalists

Throughout the day, residents continued to register and join the queue at the venue, with medical experts attending to various eye conditions and distributing free glasses and drug

The two-day outreach has been praised by residents as a direct intervention that brought healthcare closer to the people of Oshodi-Isolo Constituency 2
