EFCC, FBI Probe Actor Ike Ogbona Over Alleged $75,000 Romance Scam
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, has invited prominent Nigerian actor Ike Ogbona for questioning over allegations of a $75,000 romance scam.
According to a formal complaint filed by a 49-year-old American woman, Kimberly Ann, from Michigan, USA, the actor and the complainant had been in an online relationship since last year.
Kimberly alleged that she sent Ogbona more than $65,000 during the course of their relationship. She further claimed that after sending an additional $10,000 to facilitate his trip to visit her in Michigan, the actor failed to show up and subsequently stopped responding to her calls and messages.
The complainant said she became suspicious and concluded that she had been deceived.
EFCC sources confirmed that Ogbona has been invited for questioning and investigation as part of ongoing joint efforts with the FBI to tackle transnational fraud cases involving Nigerian citizens.
If found culpable after investigation, Ogbona could face prosecution and may be subject to extradition to the United States to answer to the charges.
The EFCC has not released an official statement on the matter, and Ogbona is yet to publicly respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
