NDC Executives in Amuwo Odofin Reject Omogeye’s Participation in Party’s Primaries
Executives of various wards and the Local Government Area chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress in Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency have strongly rejected the participation of Hon. George Olawande, popularly known as Omogeye, in the party’s forthcoming House of Representatives primaries scheduled for Thursday, 29th May 2026.
The party executives, in a joint position made available to journalists on Tuesday, maintained that Hon. George Olawande does not meet the constitutional and procedural requirements stipulated by the party for aspirants seeking to contest under the platform of the NDC.
According to the executives, the outgoing representative of Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency was not a registered and recognized member of any political party at the time he joined the NDC, following his alleged expulsion from the African Democratic Congress. They argued that one of the mandatory requirements for participation in the primaries is the presentation of a valid resignation letter from a former political party, a condition they insist Hon. Olawande cannot fulfill.
Speaking on behalf of the ward executives, party leaders stressed that political parties must uphold internal democracy, discipline, and constitutional compliance to preserve the integrity of the electoral process.
“The party cannot compromise its laid down rules and guidelines for any individual irrespective of status or influence.
The executives further warned that allowing any aspirant who fails to satisfy the guidelines of the party to participate in the primaries could trigger avoidable legal disputes capable of jeopardizing the chances of the party in the 2027 general elections.
They reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring a transparent, credible, and rancor-free primary election process while calling on the national leadership of the party to strictly adhere to the provisions guiding eligibility for aspirants.
The NDC primaries for the Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency seat are expected to attract significant political attention ahead of the 2027 general elections, as stakeholders continue consultations across the constituency.
